The Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles lost against the Paint Branch Panthers back in February of 2020, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Seneca Valley fell just short of Paint Branch by a score of 53-51. While losing is never fun, Seneca Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Paint Branch is ranked 43rd).
Seneca Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryan Sowell, who scored ten points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Sowell grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Marquis Watson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Olivier Yango was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points for Paint Branch. That's the first time this season that Yango scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Lee, who scored 11 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Seneca Valley and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Paint Branch, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Seneca Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Northwest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Paint Branch will be home for the holidays to greet Northwood at 7:15 a.m. on Friday.
