Fans got a thrill when Kordelle Phillips and Parrish Martin connected against Carrollton. The connection was good for 62 yards, the longest such play in Northeastern Buckeye this season.
Alliance scaled the state rankings by moving to 208 from 257 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Aviators climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Warriors 47-13.
Shawn Barnes was a key player and the best on defense this week as Alliance beat Carrollton. The 5-foot-10 sophomore grabbed 1 sack.
Phillips threw for 264 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 17-22 with 1 interception.
Phillips put up the best numbers in passing as Mike Schott's team defeated the Warriors. Phillips' favorite target this week was JJ Kukura, who caught 6 passes for 90 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Aviators' Phillips and Kukura have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-8 quarterback Phillips has thrown for 1,235 yards this season, while Kukura has 35 catches for 516 yards. Connor Zwick from Louisville leads the league in rushing with 461 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Alliance's Kukura goes up against Canton South's David Bates.
One of Northeastern Buckeye's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Aviators and the Wildcats face off next week.
Next week's game between Alliance and Canton South will feature a good passing match up as Phillips will test his arm against Bates' defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Minerva takes on the Leopards. As it stands, the Lions are in third, while Louisville is in first.
John Demarco's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating West Branch, 48-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Leopards.
