The St. Pauls Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 80-58 defeat at the hands of Fairmont. While losing is never fun, St. Pauls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while Fairmont is ranked 151st).
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamarcus Smith, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyson Thompson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
St. Pauls has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Fairmont, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pauls will square off against West Bladen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Bladen is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games. As for Fairmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Red Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Springs has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
