The Winona Tigers will face off against the Choctaw County Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Choctaw County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Winona, who comes in off a win.
On Friday, Winona beat PURE Academy 14-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Landon Crawford continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 95 yards on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Winona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in 14 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Winona's defense and their 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alejandro White, Dejuan McChristian, and Quincy Burt, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece. White was another major factor on D, picking up 0.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, after soaring to 43 points the game before, Choctaw County was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 8-7 to Noxubee County. The game marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Winona will have to contain Jeramiah Miller as he made an impact in Choctaw County's last game. He rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. Miller's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Choctaw County's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Winona, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Winona has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Choctaw County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 194.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Winona ended up a good deal behind Choctaw County in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, losing 41-27. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
