The Frederick Golden Eagles had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They strolled past Roosevelt with points to spare, taking the game 73-57. Given Frederick's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Roughriders are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frederick was led to victory by Zach Burton and JJ Strojinc. Burton scored 16 points along with six steals, while Strojinc scored 29 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Burton scored 15 or more points. Ollie Justice was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Roosevelt lost, one person who can't be blamed is Seppe Salvatore. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 47.4% of Roosevelt's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Peterson, who scored eight points along with 17 rebounds and two steals.
Frederick is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Roosevelt, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home.
Frederick will take on the Ravens at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Roosevelt, they will head out on the road to challenge the Mountain Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
