Savannah Vanderpool spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sultana saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaliyah Huizar, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Jordan Mullinax was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Summit waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 14-13 W against the Cowboys. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the SkyHawks have posted since February 17, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Clarissa Leon, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Summit was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Summit's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Sultana, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Summit's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sultana has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Summit, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Sultana's sizable advantage in that area, the SkyHawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sultana was able to grind out a solid victory over Summit when the teams last played back in March of 2020, winning 9-5. Do the Sultans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the SkyHawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
