Edgewood is 0-10 against Ross since May of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Rams at 5:00 p.m. Edgewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Edgewood came out on top against Eaton on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run second inning. The Cougars put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-2 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their one-run performance the game before.
Madison Ferrell was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylee Strunk, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Ross sidestepped East Central for a 4-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Josi Alvis made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Paige Baker was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Ross' record is now 8-6. As for Edgewood, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Edgewood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Ross struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Edgewood might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Ross in their previous meeting on Monday. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
