The Canby Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oregon City. While losing is never fun, Canby can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Oregon City is ranked 32nd).
When it comes to explaining why Canby lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaxon Lawson. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. Lawson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Michel, who scored 13 points.
Canby's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for Oregon City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canby will square off against Hood River Valley at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hood River Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. Oregon City will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Parkrose at 7:15 p.m. on January 5th.
