The Winfield Generals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 51-41 to Lewis County. Winfield found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 11 on offense.
Winfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Antonela Johnson, who scored 11 points along with five assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlee Johnson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Lewis County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ella Pinkney, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Pinkney is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Pinkney, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Lewis County, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Winfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Hurricane is ranked 39th, while Winfield is ranked 32nd). Lewis County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nicholas County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
