Mt. Baldy recap October 1, 2013
Robert Butanda of Ontario ran for the longest rushing play in Mt. Baldy this season against Garey last week. Butanda scampered for 62 yards on the play and finished with 177 on the day as his team defeated the Vikings.
Chaffey was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Tigers defeated Don Lugo 21-8 earlier in the week.
Ontario's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cameron Poe threw for 45 yards and Butanda had 45 yards receiving. On the ground Butanda chipped in 177 yards.
Butanda was a passing and rushing force as Ron Stocking's team beat Garey. Butanda's key target this week was Butanda, who caught 4 passes for 45 yards.
Butanda was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate Stephon Randolph added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Jonathan Trucks and Devan Imbach, Colony has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Trucks is tops in the league in passing with 638 yards, while Imbach has rushed for 503 yards this season. The Jaguars' Butanda leads the league in receiving yards with 291 on 15 catches.
Next week's game between the Titans and Montclair will feature an aerial matchup as Trucks tests his arm against Carlos Puebla's defensive ability.
A big matchup in Mt. Baldy this week will be when Colony takes on the Cavaliers. As it stands, Steve Randall's team is in third, while Montclair is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Titans and T.J. Fiorenza's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Colony comes in having scored 108 this season, while the Cavaliers have scored 103.
Chino scaled the state rankings by moving to 404 from 492 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cowboys climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Montclair 41-0.
