Monticello is 10-0 against Pinnacle since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Monticello Buckaroo will head out on the road to face off against the Pinnacle Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Monticello is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Monticello suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Monument Valley 62-23. While losing is never fun, Monticello can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Monument Valley is ranked 28th).
Meanwhile, Pinnacle scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Freedom Prep Academy 51-8 at home. That looming 51-8 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Pinnacle yet this season.
Pinnacle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Heather Kerr led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Kerr is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jostyn McLean, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Pinnacle, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9.
Monticello beat Pinnacle 41-30 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Does Monticello have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pinnacle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
