Baseball Recap: Douglas County West Comes Up Short

Douglas County West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fort Calhoun Pioneers. That's two games in a row now that the Falcon have lost by just one run.

Douglas County West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Pettit, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Pettit has become a key player for the Falcon: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise.

Douglas County West's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Fort Calhoun, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Douglas County West will challenge rival Arlington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fort Calhoun is set to take on their familiar foe Central City/Centura at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pioneers 4, the Kernels 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
