Given Cary Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Coastal Christian is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cary Christian to victory were Gideon Landry and Andrew Neal. Landry scored 17 points along with eight rebounds, while Neal scored 26 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was David Wisniewski jr., who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Coastal Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aidan Davies. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. That was a full 56.5% of Coastal Christian's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Martin, who scored 11 points.
Cary Christian's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Coastal Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.
Cary Christian will challenge Wake Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Coastal Christian on the road again on Saturday and play against South Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th.
