The Horseshoe Bend Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Notus. Horseshoe Bend was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Porter Larson, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Larson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Layth Bromgard, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Notus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luis Vargas led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. It was the first time this season that Vargas posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Benitez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Horseshoe Bend dropped their record down to 8-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Notus, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horseshoe Bend will take on the Ramblers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cascade has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 253 points over their last four contests. As for Notus, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Idaho (Vision is ranked 117th, while the Pirates are ranked 96th).
