The Coal Ridge Titans will head out to square off against the Basalt Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Basalt will be up against a hot Coal Ridge team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. The Titans were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over Moffat County on Friday. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

George Roberts made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Jakson Slade was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Logan Harlow was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Coal Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Basalt made sure to put some runs up on the board against Olathe on Tuesday. The Longhorns blew past the Pirates 18-3. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Chris Hays was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Hays was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Elias Schendler was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Karson Schneider, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Coal Ridge pushed their record up to 13-2-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Basalt, their record now sits at 8-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coal Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coal Ridge took their win against Basalt in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
