The Englewood Stem Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Kennedy 49-45. Englewood Stem was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kennedy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Englewood Stem lost, one person who can't be blamed is Saniya Buchanan. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points. That was a full 37.8% of Englewood Stem's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Englewood Stem's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-11. As for Kennedy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Englewood Stem will challenge Agricultural Science at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy on the road again on Saturday and play against Cristo Rey Jesuit at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th.
