The Mineral County Serpents struggled with assists on Thursday (the Pyramid Lake Lakers had 24 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mineral County was outmatched by the Lakers on the road and fell 71-4. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mineral County has scored all season.
Several Serpents players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayona Kimmins, who scored no points along with 17 rebounds. Kimmins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Taiylor Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five rebounds.
Kaitlin Mandell was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds for Pyramid Lake. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mandell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Seqouia Harjo, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Mineral County has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Pyramid Lake, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.
Mineral County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Muckers at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Virginia City is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Pyramid Lake, they will head out on the road to take on the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Sage Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Lakers are ranked 17th).
