Beckville extended their postseason success on Friday against Leon. They pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over the Cougars. The win was nothing new for the Bearcats as they're now sitting on seven straight.
A big part of Beckville's victory came down to the chemistry between Braxton Bullock and his top target Gabe Johnson. Bullock threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns while Johnson picked up 117 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Those 117 receiving yards gave Johnson a new career-high. Beckville also got a significant boost from Jorden Prince, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Leon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cooper Stevens, who picked up 153 receiving yards and three scores. Stevens really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 92 yards. Landon Thomas was another key player, throwing for 217 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes.
Beckville's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Leon, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.
Beckville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 43-33 loss against San Augustine on the 28th. Leon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
