Basketball Recap: Ridge Spring-Monetta Comes Up Short

Ridge Spring-Monetta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raiders. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2016.

Ridge Spring-Monetta's loss came despite strong showings from Jaiden Holloway and Briston Matthews. Holloway posted eight points and six steals, while Matthews put up nine points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Holloway is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Malik Fuller, who had eight points.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darius Walker led the charge by putting up 11 points and three steals. That's the most points Walker has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Mcmillian, who posted six points and eight boards.

Ridge Spring-Monetta's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Bamberg-Ehrhardt, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5.

Ridge Spring-Monetta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Clear Dot Charter on the 27th. As for Bamberg-Ehrhardt, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-45 win against Allendale-Fairfax on the 27th.
