The Sabino Sabercats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against Sunnyside by a score of 77-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sabino to victory, but perhaps none more so than Spencer Larson, who scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Hambacher, who scored 11 points.
Sunnyside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was XAVIER LEYVA, who scored 11 points. The matchup was LEYVA's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Moreno Leyva , who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
The victory (which was Sabino's third in a row) raised their record to 3-11. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Sunnyside, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Sabino will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rincon/University has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 472 points over their last seven contests. Sunnyside's road trip will continue as they head out to face Canyon del Oro at 3:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Canyon del Oro is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.2 points per game.
