Chatfield has gone a perfect 8-0 against Rushford-Peterson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Gophers will welcome the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Chatfield will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Chatfield barely beat La Crescent the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gophers blew past the Lancers 12-4 on Monday. The contest marked the Gophers' most dominant win of the season so far.
Rylee Urban was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Finley, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendall Knutson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Chatfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Rushford-Peterson was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 19-2 to Wabasha-Kellogg.
Rushford-Peterson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Torryn Schneider, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Chatfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average this season. As for Rushford-Peterson, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Rushford-Peterson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chatfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. It's a different story for Rushford-Peterson, though, as they've only averaged .175. Will they be able to contain Chatfield's hitters?
Chatfield took their victory against Rushford-Peterson when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Gophers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
