Betsy Layne is 2-8 against the Wildcats since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Betsy Layne Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Shelby Valley Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Betsy Layne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge.
Even though Paintsville scored an imposing 64 points on Monday, Betsy Layne still came out on top. Betsy Layne snuck past the Tigers with a 69-64 victory.
Meanwhile, Shelby Valley pushed their score all the way to 72 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of WestSide. While losing is never fun, Shelby Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 173rd in Kentucky, while the Renegades are ranked 46th in West Virginia).
Betsy Layne is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Shelby Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.
Betsy Layne couldn't quite finish off the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 63-61. Can Betsy Layne avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
