The Lexington Wildcats will head out to take on the North Augusta Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lexington had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt River Bluff on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Gators 11-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Gators recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, North Augusta gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against South Aiken as they made off with an 11-3 win.
Lia Allen was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs.
In other pitching news, Eleanor Brummond looked comfortable as she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Ayla Holmes and Emily Cloy did most of the damage at the plate: Holmes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Cloy went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave Cloy a new career-high. Celeste Truesdale also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
North Augusta hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Lexington pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Augusta, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Everything went Lexington's way against North Augusta in their previous matchup on April 2nd, as Lexington made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
