It'll be a Battle of the Birds when McGehee Owls face off against Baptist Prep Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. McGehee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, McGehee came up short against DeWitt and fell 10-7. The Owls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kamryn Jefferson put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Jefferson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Jefferson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Snow, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Even though they lost, McGehee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Baptist Prep entered their contest against Conway Christian on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Baptist Prep lost 22-11 to Conway Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Baptist Prep has suffered since April 18, 2024.
Nick Boyette was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Nolan Boyette also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
McGehee now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Baptist Prep, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McGehee has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Baptist Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .517. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
