Softball Game Preview: Lutcher Bulldogs vs. Berwick Panthers

Lutcher is a perfect 3-0 against Berwick since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Lutcher will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

While Lutcher's victory against St. Mary's Dominican wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out St. Mary's Dominican 8-6.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Berwick challenged Terrebonne on Wednesday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 20-1. Considering the Panthers have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Diboll made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Azyria Garrison was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shelby Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

The win was the third in a row for Berwick, bringing their record up to 12-16. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lutcher, their record is now 17-7.

Everything went Lutcher's way against Berwick when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Lutcher made off with a 16-1 win. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
