The Goddard Rockets will take on the Silver Slvr Ftg Colts at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Goddard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Goddard is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against St. Pius X by a score of 6-1.
Juliet Gallegos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Jorelianis Guzman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Roxanna Serrano, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Goddard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 8-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Silver unfortunately witnessed the end of their 14-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 11-4 to Aztec. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Slvr Ftg Colts, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.
Mia Sanchez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.
Goddard now has a winning record of 15-14. As for Silver, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-8.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Goddard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Silver struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Goddard might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Silver in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
