Basketball Recap: Ruthanna Wilson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manila over Lyman

Manila lost against Lyman back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Manila Mustangs lost to the Lyman Eagles at home by a 61-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 71st in Utah, while the Eagles are ranked 11th in Wyoming).

Manila lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ruthanna Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Kallie Bair was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 12 boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Manila smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 17 consecutive contests.

Lyman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anna France out in front who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Smith, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points.

Manila's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Lyman, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manila will host Wendover at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyman has already played their next game (against Kemmerer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
