The Wakefield Wolverines put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They secured a 53-49 W over Leesville Road. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Leesville Road is ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Syncere Burnette continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a triple-double on 17 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists. Those ten assists set a new season-high mark for him. Colin Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Wakefield's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.8 points per game. As for Leesville Road, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wakefield will stay at home for another game and welcome Northern Nash at 7:00 p.m. on December 16th. Leesville Road will be home for the holidays to greet Holly Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
