They strolled past Layton Christian Academy with points to spare, taking the game 61-44. Judge Memorial Catholic pushed the score to 52-28 by the end of the third, a deficit Layton Christian Academy cut but never quite recovered from.
Judge Memorial Catholic found their leader in underclassman Elyah Ocampo, who scored 23 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ocampo has scored at least a third of Judge Memorial Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Esther Analjok, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Layton Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played. Jessica McKain was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three blocks.
Judge Memorial Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Layton Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Judge Memorial Catholic will square off against Summit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summit Academy will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Layton Christian Academy on the road again on Thursday and play against Juan Diego Catholic at 5:15 p.m. on January 25th. Juan Diego Catholic has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
