Highland faced Gainesville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Hawks fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 2-0. The Hawks' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Stephen Christopher was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Gainesville, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Highland is taking a road trip to square off against Fredericksburg Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gainesville, they will take on Abingdon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
