The Covington Chargers will venture away from home to take on the Ripley Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Covington's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Craigmont with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Chargers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bella Crook was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Crook was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Micayla Scott was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Brooke Waldon was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of 1.000. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Ripley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Pioneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tigers have posted against the Pioneers since March 15, 2022.
The win made it two in a row for Covington and bumps their season record up to 10-10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Ripley, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-9-1.
Covington came out on top in a nail-biter against Ripley in their previous meeting on April 11th, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
