The Tug Valley Panthers lost against the Shelby Valley Wildcats back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Tug Valley took a 49-33 bruising from Shelby Valley. Tug Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Tug Valley saw an underclassman step up: Bailee Hall scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Hall scored a full 48.5% of Tug Valley's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelynn Richardson, who scored five points.
Tug Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Shelby Valley, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Tug Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Martin County at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Martin County is ranked 74th in Kentucky, while Tug Valley is ranked 80th in West Virginia). Shelby Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Magoffin County at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. The timing isn't great for Magoffin County: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while Shelby Valley has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
