The Yorktown Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Anderson Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Yorktown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
Anderson will be up against a hot Yorktown squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers walked away with a 9-4 victory over Westfield on Thursday.
Olivia Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Anna Rinker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Abbey Booher, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Yorktown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Anderson). They blew past Muncie Central 25-3 on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Like Yorktown, Anderson also got a great game from a two-way player: Chelsea Shaker. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave Shaker a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Anderson got a massive performance out of Jaycen Swink, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. That home run was Swink's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Wilson, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, two triples, and one RBI.
Yorktown's record now sits at 10-2. As for Anderson, their record is now 3-6.
Yorktown's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Anderson, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Yorktown continue to outrun the ball?
Yorktown took their victory against Anderson in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
