After losing to the Springville Red Devils the last time they met, the Corner Canyon Chargers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Corner Canyon blew past Springville 69-44. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Corner Canyon has managed all season.
Leading Corner Canyon to victory were Maia Rhay and Elina Mortensen. Rhay scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Mortensen scored 22 points along with five rebounds. The game was Mortensen's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kate LeRoy was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Springville lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Millie Thompson, who scored ten points along with six assists. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Johnson, who scored 12 points.
Corner Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Springville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corner Canyon will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Northridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Utah Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Corner Canyon is ranked 15th). As for Springville, they will head out on the road to face off against Provo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Provo is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
