The Pender Patriots lost against the Laney Buccaneers last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Pender took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Laney. While losing is never fun, Pender can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Laney is ranked 59th).
Laney got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aniece Lewis out in front who scored 10 points along with 6 steals. The contest was Lewis' third in a row with at least ten points. Lauren Bastable was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Pender now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Laney, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Pender will head out on the road to face off against East Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Laney, they will be playing at home against West Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Brunswick is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
