Ooltewah hasn't had much luck against Bradley Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Owls will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Ooltewah is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
11 must be Ooltewah's lucky number: they beat Notre Dame with that score not once but twice on Wednesday. The Owls put the hurt on the Fighting Irish with a sharp 11-1 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Owls, who have now won three games in a row.
Emmerson Reed spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Ooltewah let Addilyn Watts and Kaylin Leblanc run wild. Watts scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Leblanc went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Keely Miller, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Ooltewah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bradley Central didn't have quite enough to beat East Hamilton on Tuesday and fell 4-3.
Bradley Central also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Gracie Ownby gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Bradley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lynlee Hodge, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Ooltewah's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Bradley Central, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-12-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Ooltewah hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bradley Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
