Grayville hasn't had much luck against Woodlawn recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Bison will challenge the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Grayville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Clay/Clay City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bison put the hurt on North Clay/Clay City with a sharp 14-4 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bison needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Emily Renshaw made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Renshaw was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Grayville got a massive performance out of Addi Tate, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ava Kleinschmidt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Grayville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Odin/Patoka/Sandoval on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their one-run performance the match before.
Hannah McKinney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 14 hits.
At the plate, MaKayla Owens was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Hanley Lamacchia also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Grayville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Woodlawn, their record now sits at 5-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Grayville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlawn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Grayville might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Woodlawn in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
