The Maritime Academy Charter Seadogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Simon Gratz at home by a decisive 56-42 margin. While losing is never fun, Maritime Academy Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 635th, while Simon Gratz is ranked 221st).
Several Seadogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaseer Mann, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadin Aviles, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Maritime Academy Charter struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Jabrelle Dennison was his usual excellent self, scoring 14 points for Simon Gratz. Sihaaj Johnson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Maritime Academy Charter dropped their record down to 2-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Simon Gratz, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.
Maritime Academy Charter will head out on the road to face off against String Theory at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully String Theory focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday. Simon Gratz won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Olney at 3:15 p.m. on January 18th.
