Crestwood has gone 8-1 against Kirtland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Red Devils will square off against the Hornets at 5:00 p.m. Crestwood is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Crestwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Cardinal by a score of 21-20 on Wednesday.
Bella Stier was cooking despite her team's loss, going 5-for-6 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Kayleigh Helm also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Kirtland never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Beachwood on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bison an 11-0 shutout. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Bison recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Kirtland also got a great performance from Gracie Svigel as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Grace Mastrangelo was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Maggie Kothera was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Kirtland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Kirtland picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-9. As for Crestwood, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Crestwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kirtland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Crestwood skirted past Kirtland 11-10 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
