Silver is on an eight-game streak of home losses, and Chaparral a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Silver Fighting Colts will look to defend their home field against the Chaparral Lobos at 6:00 p.m. Silver has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Deming hit Silver with a 15-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Fighting Colts lost 22-3 to the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, Chaparral can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They blew past Santa Teresa 13-7. Considering the Lobos have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Michael Molina and Israel Nieto made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Molina struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Nieto pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Chaparral is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10 otherwise. At the plate, Molina got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Nieto went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Molina has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Carlos Torres was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Chaparral's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 4-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Aiden Munoz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Chaparral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Silver's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Chaparral, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 12-11.
Silver came up short against Chaparral in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Fighting Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
