3A Conference 13 recap October 8, 2013
Corinth Holders added to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 13 this week by beating Franklinton, 33-32. The victory was the fourth in a row for Corinth Holders.
Barry Honeycutt's team and the Rams played the most contested game in the league this week, with Barry Honeycutt's team eventually emerging with a 33-32 victory. Hampton Smith in the win.
South Johnston's Smith Garrett and Harris Devin led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Garrett has thrown for 1,117 yards this season, while Devin has 40 catches for 603 yards. Cleveland's Isaac Martin leads the league in rushing yards with 942.
Martin of the the Rams is just 58 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Martin has rushed for 942 yards on 148 carries so far this year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Trojans' Devin goes up against Triton's Emmanuel Myles.
Next week's game between South Johnston and the Hawks will feature an aerial matchup as Garrett tests his arm against Myles' defensive ability.
One of 3A Conference 13's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Shane Dular's team and Triton face off next week.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Western Harnett takes on Corinth Holders. As it stands, the Eagles are in fourth, while Corinth Holders is in second.
Corinth Holders made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,507 from 4,677. The advance stemmed from a 33-32 victory over Franklinton last week.
