A District 4 recap September 24, 2013
Grand Island's Jake Mayer recorded the longest rushing play in A District 4 this season in his game against Norfolk last week. Mayer scampered for 65 yards on the play and finished with 100 on the day as his team beat the Panthers.
Lincoln was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Links defeated Bryan 34-12.
Grand Island's dynamic duo of Pierce Almond and Trevor Wojtalewicz proved tough for Norfolk to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Almond threw for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns and Wojtalewicz had 86 yards receiving.
Jeff Tomlin's team's dynamic duo of Almond and Wojtalewicz proved to be unstoppable against Tom Olson's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Yohanna Shokai was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 126 yards on 13 carries as Lincoln topped the Panthers. Tyson Wilson also contributed to the rushing game with 40 yards on the ground.
Almond put up the best numbers in passing as Grand Island beat Norfolk.
Jacob White provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Kearney fell to Millard North. He completed 6 passes for 85 yards and also ran for 50 yards.
Michael Lambert made the biggest impact on defense this week as Fremont fell to Omaha Westside. The 6-foot-0 senior.
Wojtalewicz was the best wideout in A District 4 this week as the Islanders defeated the Panthers.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Tigers' Eliott Gloeb and Noah Voss have proven to be a lethal combination. Gloeb has thrown for 865 yards this season, while Voss, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 20 catches for 331 yards. Shokai from Mark Macke's team leads the league in rushing with 581 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Grand Island takes on the Bearcats. At the moment, the Islanders are in first, while Kearney is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Grand Island takes on Brandon Cool's team. The Islanders have allowed 90 points this season, while the Bearcats have given up 90. Grand Island allowed 28 points last week as it bested Norfolk.
North Platte lost to Bellevue East 54-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.
