Northern recap October 29, 2013
Central Valley moved up to 235 from 267 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Northern. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of topping Yreka 49-6.
West Valley added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lassen, 45-8. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Eagles.
Timmy Naylor threw for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Lain Baker made the biggest impact on defense this week as Anderson fell to Corning. The 6-foot-0 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Austin Clark was a passing and rushing force as West Valley defeated the Grizzlies.
Clark was the best running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 158 yards as Greg Grandell's team bested the Miners. Teammate Brady Casselman added to the ground attack by rushing for 128 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Naylor of Matt Hunsaker's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 768. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Franky Shepherd. The Lassen star has 32 catches for 372 yards.
The Falcons' Connor Silveria needs only 70 yards against Lassen next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Silveria has rushed for 930 yards on 140 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in Northern this week will be when Yreka takes on the Cardinals. Orlyn L Culp II's team is in third place, while Corning is in second place.
The Miners lost to Central Valley 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jacob Maphet was a bright spot for Yreka, as he ran for 97 yards in the loss.
