The Dunnellon Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 23 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Williston with a sharp 63-40 win on Monday. Given Dunnellon's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Williston is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tatiana Matthews continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 28 points along with nine steals and five assists. The matchup was her eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alexa Weiser, who scored 11 points.
Williston lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tia Coleman, who scored four points along with seven rebounds. Coleman set a new season high mark in steals with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Natreana Akanni , who scored five points along with ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Williston were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dunnellon only pulled down an offensive rebound.
The win (which was Dunnellon's third in a row) raised their record to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Williston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunnellon won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Belleview at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. As for Williston, they will head out on the road to face off against Vanguard at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Vanguard focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
