Softball Recap: California School for the Deaf's Run of Eight Straight Wins Now Over

California School for the Deaf dropped their record down to 22-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They came up short against the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pilots this season, with their most recent defeat being a 17-1 loss back in April.

Julianna Hammons spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games.

On St. Joseph Notre Dame's side, Cassandra Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Sanchez was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, St. Joseph Notre Dame got a big performance out of Ella Schwartz, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Schwartz has posted since back in April. Reagan Bowman was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

California School for the Deaf has already played their next contest, a 15-5 defeat against Piedmont on the 20th. As for St. Joseph Notre Dame, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 18-0 loss against Acalanes on the 21st.
