Two dominant players in Hunter Howard and Sim Wenger are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Palisade Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Glenwood Springs Demons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Palisade is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Palisade came up short against Fruita Monument and fell 47-40. Palisade has not had much luck with Fruita Monument recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Glenwood Springs, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 57-44 victory over Montrose on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given Glenwood Springs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Montrose is ranked 25th).
It was another big night for Wenger, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Glenwood Springs' points. Alec Claassen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Palisade has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Glenwood Springs, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Palisade came up short against Glenwood Springs when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 69-60. Can Palisade avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
