The Orting Cardinals will face off against the White River Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Orting is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Orting had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Washington put an end to it on Thursday. The Cardinals came up short against the Patriots, falling 11-1. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Orting saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalynn Halte, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, White River came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Falcons 12-2. Considering the Hornets have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Laken Elvig made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Elvig was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Kennedy Selander was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and one triple while going 3-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Elliotte Kajita, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
White River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
White River's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Orting, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Orting hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like White River struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orting skirted past White River 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
