Delaware Valley hasn't had much luck against North Pocono recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Warriors will square off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m.
Delaware Valley easily dispatched Scranton Prep two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Warriors fell just short of Scranton by a score of 8-6 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Knights since April 12, 2023.
Liam Onofry was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Nick Jorgenson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, North Pocono waltzed into their matchup on Sunday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 13-3 win. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
North Pocono let Jake Reese and Connor Ruddy run wild. Reese went 2-for-4 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Ruddy scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Reese is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Mike Hatala also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
North Pocono always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scranton Prep only posted an OBP of .308.
North Pocono's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Delaware Valley, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Delaware Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Pocono struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Delaware Valley couldn't quite get it done against North Pocono when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
