The Great Bridge Wildcats will square off against the Grassfield Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Great Bridge 3.3, Grassfield 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Great Bridge is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Deep Creek just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets.
Meanwhile, while Grassfield put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Lakeland. The Grizzlies put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 11-0 win. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Chase Hartford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Grassfield got a big performance out of Cydney Lafon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Lafon a new career-high. Addi Casassa was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Grassfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
With the victory, Grassfield broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-7. As for Great Bridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Great Bridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Grassfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Great Bridge skirted past Grassfield 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
