The Lake Havasu Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Verrado Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Havasu is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Lake Havasu took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past North 20-0. The matchup marked the Knights' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Carson Lockman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brock Cross and Braden Towning did most of the damage at the plate: Cross went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Towning went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI Cross has posted since back in April of 2024. Colton Rohn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Lake Havasu always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, Verrado sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Sunrise Mountain on Thursday.
Like Lake Havasu, Verrado also got a great game from a two-way player: Colton Zacher. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Zacher was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ethan Williams was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Ronal Urquiola also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Lake Havasu has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. Verrado now has a winning record of 3-2-1.
Verrado's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Havasu has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. It's a different story for Verrado, though, as they've only averaged .307. Will they be able to contain Lake Havasu's hitters?
Lake Havasu came out on top in a nail-biter against Verrado in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Havasu since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
